Just before God introduced Himself as YHWH, He gave another description of Himself.
“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And he said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14
In the course of two verses, God showed Himself to Moses as I AM and YHWH! Continuing to explore our 7 points of Yahweh and why this name is so important.
3. Yahweh is with us. God exists!
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:1-3
God is here, whether we recognize that He is or not. He interacts with us and among us. He is not obligated to do so. He simply is and He does so because He loves us.
4. Yahweh is unchanging.
He is the same today as He was yesterday and as He will be tomorrow. We live in a world that wants us to conform to it’s way of thinking. Well that has obviously been going on for centuries. In the book of Hebrews it says:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.” Hebrews 13:8-9
Does that sound familiar? We have all sorts of strange teachings going on around us today. And because we as christians do not conform to them we are considered intolerant.
5. Yahweh is wholly other than us. We are made in God’s image, yet God is not like us.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
God is holy and He is higher, He is infinite and He is all being, all knowing, omnipotent. Just like the Psalmist says (Psalm 8:4) what are we that God is even mindful of us. We GET to approach the throne of grace because of what Jesus did for us. But even though we get to do that, let us never forget who He is!
He is I AM!
